Non-Retro Activities

Hey Guys, Sorry I've been a bit quiet lately, work has been crazy busy. Lately I've been doing some non-retro stuff to mix it up a little. I recently built a solar weather system based on an ESP8266 board which has been fun, I should document that. Yesterday I built up a crazy VM network and did a d...

Looks good, I don't believe you need to double daisy chain the Voodoo 2s. The second V2 shouldn't need anything connected to it (except the internal SLI cable).

Also like the use of the Matrox, something a bit different :)

Re: voodoo 5

I have a prototype V5 5500, has an AGP 4x connector, although still only works on 2x boards.

Oh sorry I didn't see Krumm wanting #5 too, so don't worry about me if there aren't any free!

Re: Free items - SiS/S3/Matrox PCI cards etc.

Hey I'm interested in #5, SiS 6326 8mb PCI. I might be interested in some others but would prefer you to give them to others if they are interested first. So put me down for #5 and lets see how it goes!

Re: Socket 7 / Pentium 133 / Voodoo 2 & S3 Virge / SB 16 Build

Well this is interesting I found a random 8bit serial port card. It is detected as the bios said there was a conflict with the onboard ports, so I disabled these in the bios.

Mouse still does not work!

Might need to try DOS.

Re: Socket 7 / Pentium 133 / Voodoo 2 & S3 Virge / SB 16 Build

Wow thanks, you learn something new every day! I will try and work out what style this mobo is. I remember back in the day I was unaware of the 64mb ram cache limit and I'm pretty sure at some point I was running up to 96mb ram. I did some testing with Quake 3 and reducing to 64mb makes a big differ...

Re: Socket 7 / Pentium 133 / Voodoo 2 & S3 Virge / SB 16 Build

Well it looks like the serial ports on the motherboard aren't working :(

I thought it was just my PS2 to Serial adapter.

The KB fuse had gone, so maybe there is also a fuse for the serial ports. Need to see if I can fix...

Of interest why a G550? I like matrox cards but just interested as to your reason for using one in this build.

Re: Athlon MP Socket A build - currently 2000+ MP, 512MB

Oh wow nice build, I like it a lot.

I'd got SSD simply due to SCSI drives normally being 10/15k RPM and pretty noisy.

The Game Theater was pretty cool back in the day but I've never used one so not sure on the performance, but I think it would be a good match.

Re: Socket 7 / Pentium 133 / Voodoo 2 & S3 Virge / SB 16 Build

Yes the board does have an 8bit slot! Not sure why. Here is a picture of the actual motherboard. $_57-2.JPG @Washerman I'm actually running Win98se on it (works fine). When I was young I always went with whatever the latest OS was I could run on the machine, even if it impacted speed (not sure why I...

Socket 7 / Pentium 133 / Voodoo 2 & S3 Virge / SB 16 Build

Hi All, Currently this build is my oldest/slowest fully custom PC build. I have a 286 & 486 but both of these machines are OEM. I am planning to build up some custom 386 & 486 machines later but for now this is by oldest. Back in 1999/2000 I had a 430VX w/Pentium 133 machine (I was young and...

Oh wow that does sound painful! I was lucky enough to pick up a few unopened 98se CDs that a company was binning a few years back.

FYI you can upload photos directly on the forums if you wish, supports higher resolution and is easy etc.
