Good stuff. Is your 286 a custom build or a pre-built machine?

Re: Athlon MP Socket A build - currently 2000+ MP, 512MB

Very cool. Thanks! Have some more projects to come, just have to organise my study. For this build, I got some more parts in recently, 4 sticks of 1GB PC2100 ECC. According to the manual, this should allow the motherboard to physically see 3.5GB. I tried all 4 sticks at once, and it refused to boot...

Re: K7 and P3 Win98se gaming builds

I was sorry to hear about the V5, hopefully you can get it fixed and running again! There are too few of them left in the world, but it's good you received a partial refund on it. Maybe all the parts junkies (I'm included) should all commit to actually posting one build a week ;) otherwise you'll en...

Got a small stash in today, and thought I'd add a staple retro thread to the forum :) * Eagle VGA 8-bit video card - Australian made! and unused. Chipset is covered by a sticker, looks like a Tseng Labs though Turns out I was wrong about this card - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/EAGLE-TECHNOLOGIES-AUS...

Re: Recent additions to your retro collection!

Some games arrived recently, but I have only just had access to them. Been too busy with work to play with my retro toys :( hopefully that changes this weekend! Sorry for the incorrectly oriented pic, uploading from my iPhone. Games are sealed Madden II (will open it due to box damage - also have th...

Re: Apple II users?

Hey Andrew! I grew up with an Apple II (clone) and presently have two clones in my collection which will likely need some attention. As I only had copied software when we originally owned the machine I have also been tracking down original software and games. Have been planning to post some pics in ...

Re: voodoo 5

I have a prototype voodoo 5 what do you think it would be worth? No idea either :D however, if it is a 6000 you'd be in exclusive company, only about 150 of these cards made allegedly. Nice bit of info about the 6000, and 3dfx generally, here: http://forums.evga.com/3dfx-Voodoo5-6000-amp-5000-World...

Re: K7 and P3 Win98se gaming builds

Nice score on the V5! Just saw on OCAU that you paid $175, a top price indeed :D With the K7 motherboard, looks like it has a few oddities e.g. http://www.elhvb.com/ctechinfo/model/k7m/k7m.php suggests to use the power LED header for the switch! Wondering why there's no reset switch ... maybe the HP...

Re: voodoo 5

Yeah the V5 is more powerful, only thing is the AGP vs PCI thing, guess it depends on your build (not forgetting that only the V4 4500 is supported by 1.5v 4x AGP slots). Price-wise, about 10-12 years ago I paid around $200 each (AGP and Mac PCI versions, fully boxed). I've seen cards at sub-AUD150 ...

IBM Model F 122-key keyboard cleanup/resto

Just a bit of a log on cleaning up a 122 key Model F. Haven't got that far yet, but I'll update this thread as it progresses. This was an accidental purchase - I'd been looking for a Model F to go with a 5160, and the seller advertised it as an XT keyboard, so I threw a bid on it. Forgot about my bi...

Re: voodoo 5

Sorry can't help you out mate :( But can give you some guidance :) You're looking at a minimum of $100 plus post for a V5 AGP from a very generous seller. That's a very bare minimum these days, pretty much on any forum/auction site, and I'd say $150pp is a more comfortable minimum. PCI is pretty rar...

Re: Free items - SiS/S3/Matrox PCI cards etc.

There is one for you, just buried in the mountain of parts :) I've got a fair few cards, and people are mostly interested in the exotic ones, not so much these consumer grade items. The Millenium I cards are pretty good, and the Trio64 cards have a good reputation as well in DOS. Also adding #15 - a...

Re: What retro related thing have you done recently?

Just picked up an AMD 287 10MHZ fpu. Hopefully it works ok with my Intel 286 12mhz cpu. I've read most 10MHZ fpus will run fine with the 12mhz cpu? anyone had any experience? No personal experience with the 287, but I thought I'd check Scott Mueller's 8th Edition (1998) to see if it said anything. ...
