Not so much a want to buy unless someone here wants to sell me one. Just wondering what you realistically think one of these would be worth these days? Have been toying around with the idea of buying one just don't want to pay too much if I can help myself.

Sorry can't help you out mate :(

But can give you some guidance :) You're looking at a minimum of $100 plus post for a V5 AGP from a very generous seller. That's a very bare minimum these days, pretty much on any forum/auction site, and I'd say $150pp is a more comfortable minimum. PCI is pretty rare, and should theoretically go for far more than that.

V4s are mentioned as a good alternative to the V5, providing almost as much power for a cheaper price. Prices for V4s are also high though.

Current eBay prices:

V4 4500 (Russia) - $180 + $15 post
V4 4500 - modded (Spain) - $500 + $50 post
V4 4500 (Russia) - $128 + $56 post (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Rare-3DFX-Vo ... SwhcJWM9lS)

V5 5500 (boxed AGP) (US) - $460 + $100 post
V5 5500 (AGP) (Greece) - $215 + $15 post (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RARE-VINTAGE ... SwfZ1WYzkj)
V5 5500 (AGP) (US) - $237 + $34 post (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3dfx-VooDoo- ... SwuYVWnaiE)
V5 5500 (AGP) (US) - $196 + $33 post (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3dfx-VooDoo- ... SwX~dWn~IP)

The US eBay site also has a few V5 and V4 cards listed that only post to the US, but they are US$200 anyway, so no bargains at the moment.

To find a cheap-ish card, my suggestion would be to have a few saved eBay searches (using the terms "Voodoo 5", "V5", "3dfx", "5500", etc.), for worldwide items, with alerts set so that you can pounce on any potential bargains. Of course, you'd have to be quick! Cheap AGP and PCI cards (with Buy It Now) will be sold in the first few hours they are listed. Also try eBay US (with a freight forwarder for a US address), Amibay and Vintage Computer Forums, gumtree, OCAU, etc.

An alternative for the 3dfx itch would be to buy a V3 3500, play some older 3dfx games, and then use a newer, higher power card than the V5 for the more recent titles.

Yeah from what I can see on ebay I was looking around roughly $200 Aud just not sure if they're worth it or they're just super inflated from the 3dfx/Retro re sellers.

Then again thinking about it I was willing to spend $150-$200 on a voodoo 2 sli pair and I guess the voodoo 5 is a better option anyway so I don't know why I even asked lol.

Yeah the V5 is more powerful, only thing is the AGP vs PCI thing, guess it depends on your build (not forgetting that only the V4 4500 is supported by 1.5v 4x AGP slots).

Price-wise, about 10-12 years ago I paid around $200 each (AGP and Mac PCI versions, fully boxed). I've seen cards at sub-AUD150 prices on eBay recently, but they didn't last long ;) around $200 for a V5 would be considered a fair price I guess. Whether it's worth it ... these cards competed with other cards e.g. top-line Geforce 2 cards, Radeons, which are usually a fair bit cheaper.

Yeah I have a tnt2 pro and a geforce2 ti but they're useless for the game titles I have been playing (need for speed mostly). I am getting a voodoo 3 next week which will keep me happy for a while but the voodoo 5 5500 is way cooler haha.

Would you happen to know what the distance between the 2 holes either side of the gpus are? Just wondering if possibly I could fit a different heatsink possibly a larger chipset heatsink something passive maybe as my case enables me to use a 120mm fan in the side panel above the video card. Absolute long shot but does the voodoo5 have fan control?

Not sure if passive will work - http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=32178 - consensus seems to be active cooling is required.

There are a few guys that seem to say they run a 80mm fan at 5v to cool the without direct fans so I think I could get away with larger heatsinks and the 120mm fan in the side panel :). This will end up in a matx case with a p3 anyway as per my build thread :).

No idea either :D however, if it is a 6000 you'd be in exclusive company, only about 150 of these cards made allegedly. Nice bit of info about the 6000, and 3dfx generally, here:

I have a prototype V5 5500, has an AGP 4x connector, although still only works on 2x boards.
