Speaking of VIA-powered, here's one of my recapped Epox 8KTA3L+ rev 1.00, factory rated as supporting up to Thoroughbred 2400+, on a board using SDRAM

EP-8KTA3L+ supports Thunderbirds as well, but why use a Tbird when you could have a Palomino, and why use a Palo when you could have a Thoroughbred ?

Here's one I'm quite proud of - Gigabyte 6VXE7+ rev. 3, with history

Back in the day, when ComTrader site & newspaper existed, and motherboards were worth something, I used to offer a BIOS fixing service

In fact, still a couple of hits on OCAU forums if I search my phone number, copy-pasted from ComTrader as advice to people with corrupt BIOS

Anyway, a repeat customer brought this one in to get fixed

I spent ages trying to get it to work, eventually told the bloke there must be something else wrong with it, come pick it up

Found the board years later, owner CBF picking up, and not one to give up easily, had another go at it

Discovered a tiny break in one of the tracks underneath leading from the BIOS chip, bridged it with a dab of solder, and Bob's your Uncle

You can see fix in second pic, above fifth & sixth pins from right of BIOS chip, sealed with clear nail polish

Misaligned, screw that board in the case anyways. Standoff mark in that pcb.
Inturn that inner thread scratched that track open. Haha stuffed up!

Showing off a little with 3 Nakamichi there I actually have one of those cases but only the midi tower version Aopen H600 iirc, you have fine taste

Styling of the case is just beautiful. Wish they're was a side window for it.
Cannot bring myself to bust it with the plasma cutter.

So really I have to repurpose this case & do up a shitter so I can hack it.

Got one of those Asus cases that looks like it fell off a cliff .... what will you do with 15 discs loaded up?

Haven't got a groovy motherboard handy at the moment, but will find something!

Here's one similar scenario to DFI AK70 above

HP Sherwood ZX based board built when manufacturers were scrimping on quality of components and substituting Chinese electrolytic capacitors for proven Japanese ones

Yet the board uses expensive tantalum surface-mount capacitors for smaller ones (little yellow rectangular thingies), and has on-board Matrox G200 graphics

This came with some stuff I was given, and every electrolytic was bulging at the top

I was going to just scrap it because all PCI slots were yellowed, and the whole thing looked scungy

But thinking leaded solder board wouldn't take too long, decided instead to recap it with Sanyo electrolytics salvaged from defunct motherboards, each capacitor tested first with ESR meter

Now some years later, with a Coppermine 650, it's my go-to board for 98SE when I need to use Willem programmer

This board was given to me years ago,they told me it was dead,reset multi jumpers little 1200mhz Thunderbird fired up,as for the HSF gotta love it.
